What is invisalign invisible orthodontic treatment, how does it work and its different types?

Invisalign orthodontics has become one of the most requested dental treatments in recent years. The advantages of Invisalign and its good results in aligning teeth have revolutionized oral health. If you want to know what Invisalign is, how it works and what benefits it provides, this article is of interest to you.

What exactly is Invisalign treatment?

You may have already heard about this advanced orthodontic treatment, but many people still don’t know what Invisalign is.
Invisalign is an orthodontic system with greater advantages and comfort than conventional braces. Its success, as an alternative to braces, is based on the fact that it is a removable system that aligns your teeth comfortably, dispensing with traditional fixed braces.

What does Invisalign consist of?

As we said, Invisalign treatment consists of removable and transparent corrective splints. These aligners are made of transparent polymer suitable for use in the mouth. They are custom-made, with computer-assisted design and manufacturing.
Used individually in sequence, these splints or aligners, which can be removed and changed, exert a slight pressure on the teeth to produce a slight tooth movement. Gradually, as the aligners are replaced, deficiencies or malocclusions are corrected until the teeth are correctly positioned.
To align the teeth, it is necessary to wear the aligner throughout the day, except during meals and while brushing your teeth, for which you can remove the splint without any problem.
In addition to the treatment splints, Invisalign treatments consist of refinement splints and maintenance splints. The latter can be worn at night to prevent the position of your teeth from shifting once the treatment is completed. Remember that teeth “have memory” and, if there is nothing to prevent it, they will gradually return to the initial position they were in before orthodontics began.

How does Invisalign work?

Before we explain how Invisalign works, let us tell you that this orthodontic process begins by scanning the inside of your mouth to obtain digital images that Invisalign will use to produce a complete 3D image that virtually represents how you move your teeth with Invisalign at each stage of the orthodontic process.

At Medident we use 3D technology to develop your personalized orthodontic plan and create your individualized aligners for each stage of the process.
Once you have your kit with all the aligners, you will only have to replace them sequentially every 2 or 3 weeks, depending on each case and the initial position of the teeth. As you change aligners, the teeth will move and adjust progressively to the final image shown by the computer in the initial study.
We recommend that you wear your Invisalign aligners for an average of 20-22 hours a day and only remove them to eat, drink, brush and/or floss your teeth.
Make sure the aligners are not out of your mouth for more than 2 hours at a time. And if one day you have exceeded the recommended time, we advise you to extend the use of that set of aligners for one more day for each day that you do not comply with the recommended hours.

Duration of Invisalign treatment month by month

At Medident we know that you are impatient to show off your new smile and surely you want to know how long the Invisalign treatment lasts. The answer varies depending on each particular case. What we can assure you is that with Invisalign month by month you will notice small changes in your teeth. From the fourth month of treatment, the changes will be visible to others.

Different types of Invisalign treatments

Depending on your case, we can opt for different types of Invisalign. To give you an idea, these are the most common options:

What is Invisalign full.

This is the most complete Invisalign treatment. It includes unlimited treatment and refinement splints. It is the recommended Invisalign treatment for the most complex cases, as it corrects both alignment and bite.

What is Invisalign Lite?

Another type of Invisalign is Lite, which is recommended for less complex corrections, such as malpositions, rotations or slight deviation of teeth. It is also an ideal treatment for those who have received previous orthodontic treatment, but have experienced tooth movement due to various factors, such as wisdom teeth, not having used retainers…

What is Invisalign Teen?

Teenagers can also benefit from Invisalign treatment to show off a beautiful smile without wearing unsightly braces. Invisalign Teen features an eruption compensation system that makes room for the new tooth in the aligner. In addition, it offers a wear time indicator that allows parents and orthodontists to check the use of the aligners.

What is Invisalign Express or Invisalign i7?

This is the type of Invisalign treatment indicated for very mild cases or small relapses. It offers a maximum of 7 aligners and the case must meet certain clinical criteria.

Summary and conclusions to take into account when choosing your Invisalign treatment

As you can see, there are different types of Invisalign treatment, but all of them have the advantages of being invisible, very comfortable, allow proper hygiene and adapt to your lifestyle allowing you to eat or drink freely and smile throughout the treatment.
